The Fire's in Their Eyes and Their Words are Really Clear...

So beat it. Just beat it.

Let the record reflect that this week we've learned that maturity is a function adult like attitudes, not age.

You'd think that since we are at least a quarter of a century old, we'd mastered the skill of keeping a straight face when potentially embarrassing topics are discussed. After all, only 12-year-olds still giggle when they hear the word "penis", right? (Hahaha, PENIS!)

But this week in Ethics class we all regressed backwards. We had been discussing an ethical dilemma centered around a teen with a chronic masturbation problem. We powered forward, stoic enough, since we all know that sexual issues are not only real but common struggles that bring people to need our services as counselors. We take that seriously because we take our work seriously.

Except...then it happened. After a robust discussion about our concerns for this client, a 6 pack member said "Let's move on, let's beat it." For some reason, the phrase "beat it" was said at least 3 more times. For those who've settled into adulthood, no problem. But for the 6 pack, the combination of talking about masturbation and the phrase "beat it" being thrown around willy nilly is enough to launch a full blown laugh attack. The sort of laughing where the face turns red and tears stream down your face. The sort of laughing where you do your best to avoid making eye contact with the Professor, because he's not going to understand what's funny and he's going to assume it's something he said (true story). We launched into the kind of laughter that makes your cheeks and stomach sore, a real work out.

And so it began. 6 pack sayings. A journey through the good, the bad, the ugly, the REALLY ugly, the hilarious,the triumphant, the pleasant and the exciting. We welcome you aboard.
